![]() ![]() ![]() I adore this book (and everything Mariana Zapata writes) just read it, it's amazing. The grumpy hero, the sunshine with a spine of steel heroine, the slow slooow burn romance - the time and care taken to build the relationship between Van and Aiden is the strength of this story. What I thought: One of my all time favourite books! If anything could set the tone of what you can expect to find here at Reading Lass - The Wall of Winnipeg and Me would be it. What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants? For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn't find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she's beyond shocked. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. In a nutshell: Vanessa Mazur knows she's doing the right thing. Trope: Slow Burn, Fake Relationship, Grumpy/Sunshine ![]()

![]() Littlest One, whose name was sometimes shortened affectionately to simply Littlest, was working on this night with Fastidious, the one who had been designated her teacher. They crept through the bedroom, out into the dark hall. "Are we a kind of dog?" Littlest One asked suddenly. Unaware, the woman and her dog slept soundly, though the dog, on his pillow bed of cedar shavings at the foot of the woman's four-poster, moved his legs now and then as if chasing a dream rabbit. The outdoors was awake and stirring but the little house was dark and silent. Night was their time of work, the time when human conversation had ceased, when thoughts had drifted away and even breathing and heartbeats had slowed. The pair crept stealthily through the small house. Two deer moved in tandem through a meadow. Startled, a raccoon looked up with bright eyes from the place where he was foraging. Somewhere nearby, heavy wings swooped and a young rabbit, captured by sharp talons, shrieked as he was lifted to his doom. ![]() An owl called, its shuddering hoots repeating mournfully in the distance. ![]() ![]() It also happens to be something I deeply, deeply believe in. The metaphor that the zombies stand for is not deeply hidden in WARM BODIES, and it’s equal parts lesson and warning. Did I mention metaphor? Well, let me do it again. But I will tell you this: it doesn’t feel like a zombie book.Ģ. I’m not going to tell you this isn’t a zombie book, because it is - there is brain eating and arms falling off and shotguns and gray matter and OMG WHAT ARE WE GOING TO EAT FOR DINNER - YOU!? and all the traditional zombie nihilism. I have a pretty strict disinterest in zombies that I break only for Carrie Ryan’s books. It had glowing reviews from Stephanie Meyer, so I figured it couldn’t be that gross, and a glowing quote from Audrey Niffeneggar, so I figured it had to be well-written. In the spirit of honesty, I had this book as an advanced review copy for literally months before I picked it up. ![]() ![]() The department exchanged the traditional service-centric presentations, and discussions of capabilities and employment of forces, replacing them with a series of seminars covering military operations within the various domains of battle. ![]() Just as the leaders and thinkers within the joint force are becoming more dedicated to the notion that a post-joint understanding of complex future military operations should be framed by the concept of multi- or cross-domain operations, the Joint Warfighting Department at the Air Command and Staff College has similarly altered its instruction of joint capabilities and planning. ![]() ![]() ![]() But enemies are everywhere, Bree’s powers are unpredictable and dangerous, and she cannot escape her growing attraction to Selwyn, the wizard who has sworn to protect Nick to the death.
